Circus and Re-purpose

This year has been a year of finding who I am as an artist. I’ve always painted what I see in everyday life, and well, my life; these works were often chaotic and each unique to themselves. Now as I’m maturing as an artist and discovering myself I begin to paint over old works that I find to be outdated yet now are reborn through re-purpose. These old paintings become new fresh ideas of where I am now as a 21 year old trying to discover myself as an artist and make my print on this crazy world.

I know what you’re probably thinking: “But how could you paint over all of those paintings! Don’t you want to look back on them and see your progress?” and the answer is simple–yes! I love to see my progression and that’s why I have my sister who is gifted with a camera photograph my works before doing the full roll over. Also, are you aware of how much a canvas costs to purchase or build these days? I find that I can bounce right over these old works and create something new and interesting within the lines that are familiar to me but outdated…besides isn’t that what we’re all doing in life? Building off of past failures, acknowledgements, and victories? So here it is, my most recent painting, “The Queen Leaves Her Master”, painted with acrylics and some other fun useful materials….This painting depicts a circus female leaving her ringmaster. His clown nose represents his joke to her of a good life. This is a metaphor for women who are mistreated by men that build up the courage to boldly walk away..

So here’s the progression of this little duet:
